The Christiania bike is a three-wheeled family cargo bike that has been around for nearly 30 years. Its box is built to withstand outside conditions, such as rain, snow, sleet, salt and hail, while uncovered. Comes equipped with a weatherproof rain canopy, a seven-speed Shimano Nexus internal hub with coaster brake, dual front brakes, an integrated rear wheel lock, fenders, a chainguard and Schwalbe Big Apple tires. It weighs 75 pounds (34 kilograms) and can haul up to 220 pounds (100 kilograms). Seats up to four children.

Tell Your Friends

The Christiania bike is simple and beautiful. Be ready to get stopped and asked about it everywhere you go. We let our friends borrow it to ride in the Encinitas Holiday Parade and it makes people smile wherever it goes.

Wish List

For a bike that seems to have everything, it could come with an integrated dynamo lighting system.

Ideal Rider

Young families with small kids living in urban areas – the bikes are built for hauling up to four children and can handle the stresses of city life. As a business asset, the Christiania’s box is a great medium for promotions, advertising, events and cargo hauling. Since this is a heaver bike, you may want to test ride one first to see if the gearing is suitable for your terrain.

Overall

The Christiania is great for its versatility and hauling capacity. We can carry a full load at the farmers market and still have enough room to give my five-year-old daughter a ride home if she’s tuckered out. I have filled it up with a cooler and firewood, and have brought it down to the local beach for a bonfire and cookout. It’s super fun to ride.

This bike belongs to the reviewer who, as you can tell, loves his bike dearly.

Rode and e-assist model a week or two ago. $6000. But good lord was it amazing. Solid build, stable, easy to handle. And the e-drive was just stunning. Quiet, powerful, perfect.
