During a recent Critical Mass ride in LA, police officers kicked one participant off his bike and knocked a videographer to the ground. Advocates from the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) argued the city isn’t providing sufficient on-street accommodations for folks on two wheels. The mayor responded to the LACBC by issuing a public statement declaring cyclists’ equal rights to the road. Shortly thereafter, the transportation department painted the city’s first sharrows, markings that inform motorists that bikes have a right to the full lane.
