Wheeling through the Mile High City

After a Winter’s slumber, Springtime in Denver is a beautiful medley of green, sunny skies and cool air, perfect riding weather. The Rocky Mountains are covered in snow but the Mile High City has roads, paths and trails that are perfect, they will keep you and your bicycle very busy. Local eats and unique space hide all kinds of cycling treasures. Bring a light and try riding after the sun goes down for a different perspective on a city that is a modern hub combining the West Coast’s relaxed approach to life with the East Coast’s drive and motivation. Grab your bike or visit any of the fifty-one Bcycle municipal bike sharing stations and go for a ride!

Meets

Loops (Crema Coffee, 29th and Larimer) Tuesdays at 7pm, this downtown ride stops at local eateries and watering holes, all year round.

Denver Cruisers (various locations) This Wednesday night ride takes place from May to October. It’s all about fun, costumes, bar hopping and friends. Bring a wig; everyone else will, so why not let your hair down.

Tour De Fat (various locations throughout the city) Colorado’s premier brewer puts on a cycling-focused party not to be missed. Enjoy food, beer and some of the best local music at Denver’s largest bicycle party.

USA Pro Cycle Challenge takes place August 20th through the 26th, one of the largest pro-cycling stage races in the US winds its way through Colorado and finishes in downtown Denver. It's a rare spectacle to see hundreds of thousands of cycling fans fill the St.s cheering on their favorite racers.

Eats

Snooze (2262 Larimer St.) This café has what you need to get started in the a.m. The pancake of the day is always a winner.

Sputnik (3 South Broadway) Lunches are a worldwide collaboration at this downtown eatery and the music is stellar.

Highland Tap and Burger (2219 West 32nd Ave.) At this open air hangout, the duck fat fries are a perfect pairing with a locally brewed beer, and burgers are an art.

Rootdown (1600 West. 33rd Ave.) Just as jazz is to music, this menu is about change and new interpretations. Not to mention the epic views of downtown Denver from this converted garage.

Little Man Ice Cream (2620 16th St.) A uniquely shaped like a huge milk can, this ice cream boutique offers second helpings. Salted Oreo and Ginger Gelato are unforgettable at this shrine to all things ice cream.

Meadowlark (2701 Larimer St.) Libations and local music are signatures of this subterranean hangout. The talent behind the bar and on stage are welcoming and inspiring.

Sleeps

The Lumber Baron Inn (2555 West 37th Ave.) This huge 1890s mansion has all the modern amenities, wi-fi, iPads and indoor bicycle parking. Located in the Highlands neighborhood, it is perfectly placed to give you quick access to downtown Denver and with all the unique local restaurants and hangouts that are home to the Highlands.

Grand Hyatt Denver (1750 Welton St.) In the heart of downtown, this hotel is friendly and accommodating toward cyclist and their needs. Secure bicycle parking, access to the B-cycle municipal bike sharing system and local ride information set this hotel apart from others.
