Before I had the opportunity to roll around Vancouver on the Oslo, I first got to know it on a cycling trip to Saltspring Island with 30 grade seven students. It would be an easy guess that this may not be an ideal time to break in a new steed, yet the Oslo couldn’t have been easier. The 27-speed drivetrain with a Shimano Deore rear derailleur made climbing the many hills to our campsite easy. Carbon forks and ergonomic grips dampened vibrations and kept me comfortable on the jarring no-shoulder roads we traversed each day.

The Oslo’s light aluminum frame meant I didn’t feel the weight of the bike, yet it felt sturdy even with heavy bags. The formula hubs can handle disc brakes if you’d prefer, but I found the v-brakes gripped well, even in the rain. Most significantly, the Oslo allowed me to cycle every day and not worry about my bike, which meant I could focus on the kids and ensure they enjoyed the experience.

While I discovered the Oslo is a great short-touring bike, its “rally blue” paint, customized white ATC saddle and upright position also make a statement in fashion-conscious Vancouver. The only things missing to make it fully city-ready are a rack and fenders. I would recommend this bike to anyone looking for something light, stylish and comfortable.
