Restaurants in Montreal, New York City and San Diego have been using bike couriers to deliver food for years, and now Duncan Lewis and his team of couriers offer the same services in Vancouver. Lewis said he saw a “viable and exciting market” that was not being served, and made the decision to fill the need himself. And so Fast Food Couriers came into existence, offering services in the evening, when demand is highest.
Making the transition to evening food delivery was easy for Lewis, who works for Phantom Couriers during the day, as it was an extension of what he was already doing. He currently has six other couriers working with him at Fast Food, although that number may soon grow.
Though Fast Food Couriers only started this February in Mount Pleasant, it has already expanded to include five more restaurants on Commercial Drive, as well as grocery delivery and an after-hours document courier service. “We aren’t limited,” Lewis said. “If you need something delivered, just call us and ask.”
The service is currently offered from 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week, with delivery from Gastown to King Edward Avenue, and from Nanaimo Street to Oak Street. Orders can be placed directly through Fast Food Couriers at 778-848-5799. Once the food is ready, it will be delivered within 20 minutes. There is a flat rate of $3 per item on top of the cost of food.
