Helly Hansen Grey ASK Wool Jacket

Review by Jonathon Reynolds

MSRP $750USD

There are jackets which look good and jackets which work well and then there are some jackets which look great and work flawlessly. The ASK Wool jacket is one of those – it looks fantastic and works even better. Made from a fabric which combines Merino wool with polyester to create a totally waterproof jacket the Ask is full of technical features like sealed seams, water-resistant chest zippers, Helly WarmCore (130g body, 100g sleeve) and a protective collar with vent holes and meshing. I liked the tailoring which included long sleeves cut so they are comfortable while riding and still give full coverage and a super high collar with a snap across vent area in front of my mouth. A warm jacket, I used the ASK in every type of weather from horizontal rain to snow and was always warm and dry – in fact sometimes too warm. The only problem I had with this jacket was very minor – like most wool garments it left a few bits of grey wool on my dress pants the first time I wore it – other than that it is pretty close to perfect.
