MSRP $2,799 USD
At a casual glance, this bike looks like a polished version of something seen on the streets of European cities 50 years ago, which is not surprising considering that Kalkhoff, a German company, has been making top-of-the-line bikes since 1919. Its genteel appearance has been translated into a regal ride – this bike actually makes me sit up and smile; a smile that broadens when the 250 watt Panasonic electric motor kicks in and helps me glide up hills. Everything on this bike is high quality – I got the feeling I wouldn’t need to replace anything for years. It comes with almost everything an urban rider could want: fenders, lights, rack, rear-wheel lock and even a pump mounted in the rear rack – all standard equipment. The step-through frame is a real bonus when stopping at lights – a smoother process thanks to the bike’s hydraulic brakes. The eight-speed internal hub needs almost no maintenance and has plenty of range, even for Vancouver’s hills – especially with the electric boost! kalkhoffusa.com
