Deuter Kangakid Backpack

MSRP $149.99

The Deuter Kangakid Backpack is a regular-looking backpack that has a concealed child carrier inside it. We often use child seats, bike trailers or trail-a-bikes to take our children riding with us. Some bike trailers turn into strollers, but that is not always convenient or possible. After testing it out for a while, I can safely say that the Kangakid Backpack is convenient and a perfect companion to a bike seat or trailer. It can carry kid supplies (diapers, toys, snacks, etc.) and, when you unzip the back, it can carry your child as well. I've used this child carrier in all sorts of situations — from trailhead hiking to navigating through train stations, airports and grocery stores. It is almost always easier to use than a bike trailer/ stroller, mainly because of its size. An addition that would increase the versatility of this product would be an attachment that could transform it into a pannier.

The Kangakid does require a certain amount of strength to lift when fully loaded. It is also not as easy to load a child into as the big-frame child carriers. But, the single aluminum stay transfers weight nicely to the generous hip belt and the bright yellow buckles on the child harness make clipping your child in easy.
