New York City is in the midst of a bicycle boom – with a dramatic growth in infrastructure and the upcoming installation of the largest bike sharing system in the world.
To ensure that all local residents have the opportunity to provide input on the vision for bicycling in their neighborhoods, advocates from nine organizations – including Transportation Alternatives and Asian Americans for Equity – formed Local Spokes in 2011.
Focusing on the diverse Lower East Side/ Chinatown area, Local Spokes has conducted surveys in English, Spanish and Chinese; hosted community listening sessions; and trained local youth to become bike ambassadors. Learn more at localspokes.org
