2011 Seattle Bike Expo Lead

David Niddrie

Having a laugh at the Seattle Bike Expo.

Momentum Magazine was at the Seattle Bicycle Expo this weekend to show off our new look, hang out with old friends and meet new ones.

The 2011 Seattle Bicycle Expo, presented by the Cascade Bicycle Club, was held at the deluxe, two-story Smith Cove Cruise Terminal in Seattle, WA, from March 12-13, 2011.

Expo is the largest consumer bicycle show in the United States, filling more than 250 booths with exhibits of bikes, gear, travel, health and fitness from Canada and the US. Expo featured two stages and a performance arena where world-class athletes, such as Ryan Leech, Axel Merckx and the World Champion artistic cyclists from Germany, performed. Coaches and speakers from around the world, such as Joe Kurmaskie, aka The Metal Cowboy, Eben Weiss, aka Bike Snob NYC, and bicycle travel writer Willie Weir.

Mitey Miss Ulrike Rodrigues was there to discuss adventure cycling. And the Little Nutty Kids' Zone kept the youngsters entertained.

Momentum partnered with Klean Kanteen and Path Less Pedaled to give people the opportunity to meet Path Less Pedaled writers and bicycle travelers Russ Roca and Laura Crawford at the Momentum booth. People who commented on our Facebook page and found our both also received a free BYOS "Bring Your Own Steel" cup from Klean Kanteen.

Our booth was next to the Filmed by Bike people who were publicizing their 9th annual show that will feature bike-themed independent short movies from around the world at theĀ Portland, OR, Clinton Street Theater from April 15-17, 2011.

MomentumĀ caught up with Alchemy Goods , a Seattle-based company that is selling some pretty cool bags made out of recycled inner tubes, seat belts and banners.

We checked out the newest in bamboo bikes at the Bamboosero and Calfee booth.

BikeWrappers wowed us with their colorful practical bike tube wraps.

The Dutch Bike Co. kept us caffeinated; we can't wait to visit their new bike shop/ coffee shop in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.

Endurance Conspiracy had some fresh Star Wars-inspired T-shirt designs.

Brian Fornes, with Raleigh, is always a great friendly-face to run into.

Seattle Bike Supply showed off their new lightweight and stylish Pryme helmets.

Our friends at Rickshaw Bags, based out of San Francisco, CA, showed off their latest and greatest tweed bag designs.

We were excited to see the hand-crafted wax-coated canvas bags on display at the Swift Industries booth.

Greg Heath of Donkelope Bikes impressed us again with his handmade steel bikes at the show.

Novara showed their latest urban cycling wear at the Bike Fashion Show, "Traffic Stoppers," presented by Hub and Bespoke.

We caught up with Maurice Tierney, of Bicycle Times and Dirt Rag, and shared some laughs and a lively bowling session.

It was another successful and eventful Seattle Bicycle Expo for the Momentum crew. We can't wait for next year!
