Team Yuba at Supermarket Street Sweep 2010

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Food drives are often about raising as much money or food as possible to donate to people in need. The objective of the Supermarket Street Sweep, on the other hand, was to haul as much food as possible, as fast as possible.

The fifth annual Supermarket Street Sweep, organized by a team of dedicated cyclists in San Francisco, was part scavenger hunt, part race. Participants rode around the city collecting food items from merchants and then delivered them to the San Francisco Food Bank. To win, riders in men's and women's categories had to be the first to complete the course or carry the heaviest  load. This event is similar to other fundraisers happening around the country, such as "Cranksgiving" events.

The winner in the men's cargo category was Benjamin Sarrazin, founder of Yuba Bicycles, who delivered 544 pounds (247 kilograms) of food last weekend. Sarrazin, riding a stock Yuba Mundo, managed to deliver eight percent of the 6,920 pounds (3,139 kilograms) of the food donated by the 171 riders in the event. Female winner, Sarah Murder, hauled 247 pounds (112 kilograms). There were also winners in fixed-gear and road bike categories. Visit here to see all the results.

The winner was not Benjamin Sarrazin, the winner was Mark Sullivan.
