This issue marks a change for Momentum and for myself, as I have said good-bye to my day-to-day role with the magazine. (#48 was the last issue I worked on). As a co-founder, I have been a proud parent of momentum since its beginnings. I embarked on this adventure because I wanted a magazine like momentum to exist. I wanted a place where people could discover and share the good news about the down-to-earth, dynamic, simple yet glorious multiplication (of energy, of sensations, of fun!) that bikes provide. Working on the magazine these past few years has provided amazing lessons, opportunities and challenges. For 2011 my partners and I agreed that it was time for a change, to allow new visions and methods to flow freely.
I gratefully acknowledge the vision and dedication of my partners Mia Kohout and Tania Lo who, working with momentum for over three years, have developed new systems, strategies and relationships. The magazine is in their capable hands, which makes it possible for me to step away. I feel happy and excited for the future of momentum and I will be cheering from the sidelines.
I remain convinced that cities with safer cycling lanes, bike parking and a culture of respect for cycling will enjoy stronger local economies, and will better sustain the economic shifts and climate change resulting from our carbon-heavy lifestyles. Through the years at momentum I’ve been privileged to work with and learn from many talented people who have contributed a chorus of thoughtful and constructive voices to the cycling discourse. This continues for me through a new book on bicycling, due out in the fall of 2011 and (hopefully!) a new TV series. Stay tuned!
