It’s summertime again, thank goodness.
Time to relax and enjoy some great music on our MP3 players. Best Coast is back with yet another release, “The Only Place,” that is perfect for summertime; their album is due out soon.
Please pay close attention to Alabama Shakes. When I first heard Brittany Howard, a young 20-something, I thought she was an older woman. Howard brings it like I haven’t heard since Janis Joplin.
I also want to take a moment to remember MCA, Adam Yauch, from the Beastie Boys. His passing has hit many people, especially in my age bracket (38), hard. We grew up with the Beastie Boys; we got to know them; they introduced us to different kinds of music just from their samples. Speaking for myself, this is Generation X’s biggest loss – even bigger than Kurt Cobain – but that’s an argument for another time. I included “B-Boy Bouillabaisse” from Paul’s Boutique on the list – arguably their best album. I also threw in “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” from their last album, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.
Listen to these tunes on July 31, 2012, on bicycleradio.com at 6 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
