  • Conferences

I think conferences are a good thing. And apparently the powers that be in our city and province agree. That's why we built two large conference facilities here.

  • Educated Drivers?

I have a question for Velo-city Vancouver and the City of Vancouver:

With all the changes to Vancouver city (bike routes, etc.) what is being done to educate drivers? It is all fine and dandy to install bike lanes and bike routes ... But are cyclists any safer if drivers are more confused? I say no. Proof of this: I was run down last year on a designated bike route in Vancouver. Why? - the driver wasn't looking for cyclists ... On the bike route. So, what is Vancouver doing to pressure ICBC regarding the education of drivers?

  • Funding from corporate sponsors

Most the money for the 2012 conference will be/is be raised via private/corporate sponsors. They have a keen interest: it's a great opportunity, particularily for a North American based firm, to promote their products and services to European and Asian markets.

Taxpayers will get the opposite: more money from a tourism standpoint for these conference attendees and their families.

  • Strategic Wise ??

City Vancouver just forecasted a $20.6 million deficit in 2011. Does anyone ever ask how we can afford this? City always said in the beginning there won't be any financial issue but end of day there IS an issue and taxpayers are the ones who pay those bills. 2010 Vancouver game's left over is the exact lesson we are learning. PLEASE do some really things for the taxpayers not.
