My ding-a-ling

Easiest response to a question EVER! How can any bicycle rider NOT have a bell to both express the joy of riding and to also politely warn walkers of their approach from behind?

Robin more than 1 year ago

Must have water

I could not possibly do without my water bottle holder!

A great bag

Just the kind of bag I could see on my daughter as she breezes down the street to the coffee shop

Bells and lights are supposed to be required by law here so I guess the one accessory I can't do without is the pump - can't go anywhere if tires are flat!

top tube storage bag

The one small storage bag on the top tube, I transfer it from bike to bike. Its the one thing that goes with me everywhere. Wallet/phone storage. weird that i could just go buy another one but i have had this one for 6 yrs.

My Beloved Bell

Ahh, what would I do without my Mirrycle Incredibell Brass Duet. This small bell does it all. It's loud enough to give plenty of warning to others on the path, satisfies my obsession with honking/ringing, and it's simple form looks great too!

Po Campo Pilsen

My wife commutes every day on her Brommie to the elementary school where she's the principal. Her route is treacherous, even though there is a bike lane. Folks here drive like maniacs and give no room to cyclists, much less one another. She cannot do without her helmet, horn (bell isn't loud enough when folks drive with their windows up and music blaring), and super flashing lights--both front and rear. Thanks!

A Helmet is a must

After a few close calls of my own and working on an ambulance for some years I feel like I could ride any old bike as long as I have a helmet.

Preparing for goatheads

In Boise, we have a a thorned weed called goat heads, they can puncture even puncture resistant tires. I have to have a patch kit and pump at all times. Slimed tires help, but the tire pressure must be kept low (by street tire standards) for it to work.

Theo Albert more than 1 year ago

Be prepared for a flat

Most of my (5) bikes have the requisite commuter essentials like fenders, racks and bells, but even on my road bike, I am always sure to carry a pump, tire irons, tube and patch kit.

Can't do without a jacket for most of the year where I live, its my protection from the elements.

Micheline more than 1 year ago

Can't do without the fenders! They allow me to ride in any weather without changing out of my everyday clothes.

Blinky Lights

A must have! I commute on busy roads often in rain and fog. I have several flashing lights on my bike for safety and visibility, plus it's fun to be flashy! I see too many bicycles with not even a reflector, dark shadows on the road - scares me.

Fran more than 1 year ago

Reflective pant strap

My reflective strap keeps my gears from eating my pants and saves me the time I would spend rolling up my pants on my already rushed work mornings

Chami butter

Since I have begun to ride longer distance rides I must have my chami butter. It really does make a difference!

Whenever you have road mishaps. Also the tubes are useful as ties when you have unforeseen things to carry.

Dsofia more than 1 year ago

Polka Dot Helmet

Won't ride without it, plus it seems to help with on-road relations. Folks driving seem to see me more as an individual than an inconvenience.

Riding in the rain

The time of year before the snow flies ...riding in a gentle fall rain is a treat.

I could not do without my smile...every day I get to pretend that I'm 12 years old again as I go Wheeee down the hill from my house for the start of the best commute in the world...that's darned good therapy. :)

Do we have to choose one?!?

I am the epitome of the urban commuter ready for anything. I have quite the list of accessories that I can't live without:

- my beautiful Nutcase Helmet
- bell
- lights - removable to store in my bag when not in use and rechargeable with my computer, no batteries :D
- front and rear baskets are a major necessity for urban living
- tool kit for quick roadside repairs and back up tube (24" tires demand the backup)
- small towel to wipe down the rain or morning dew
- polar fleece seat cover for winter riding (nothing worse than sitting on a frozen seat after a long day at work)
- different pairs of gloves for the different seasons, not to mention the rain gear
- Contigo mug for spill free coffee drinking on the ride to work

I don't know if I would choose just one unless maybe the bag that holds all of these important items I need in my daily ride, without it I would be lost.

Genessa more than 1 year ago

If I could, I'd give every bicyclist a bell. One gentle Brrr-ing announces that a rider is coming up from behind. It's a gentle notice, a polite announcement. I love my bicycle bell. Always have. Ever since the first one on my trike.

My Rack!

Whether grabbing something at the grocery or touring for many days, my rack is essential. It works with so many bags/nets/panniers and I can't imagine city life without it.

Therese Dorau more than 1 year ago

I can't do without a pannier. I need to be able to hold my extra lock (I carry two), keys, change of clothes, food (always in need of snacks), cell phone, wallet, makeup (on a rare occasion), and whatever else.

Yvonne VAlencia more than 1 year ago

No joke, having a pair of pants (or shorts) that fit well and ride comfortably can make all the difference.

Spencer Hawkes more than 1 year ago

Rear basket

When I bike to work, I'm sure that all the bike items I might need (lock, reflective sash, sometimes a rain jacket) are with me, and when I go food shopping, I have a way to get it all home.

Can't do without...

... fenders! Living on the Wet Coast these guys make the ride so much more pleasant!

Kelly more than 1 year ago

What's behind you?

My everyday, most used, can't do without, bicycle accessory would be my EVT helmet mirror. It has a large and wide viewing area to keep me in the know of whats going on behind me at all times. It stays in place, even while riding trails. I find that I'm so dependent on it, that when I'm not riding and don't have my helmet on, just walking down the sidewalk, I'll glance up to see what's behind me. Check them out for yourself http://safezonemirror.com/ Stay safe and have fun!

mmmm coffee...

My go to accessory for my bicycle is definitely a coffee mug holder. It is a simple ring mounted to the handlebar and fits my insulated mug for the morning commute. Steaming hot coffee upon arrival at work...priceless!

Rack and bags

As a bicycle commuter, I am always carrying cargo when I bike. The rack and bags ensure that the bike carries the load; not me!

My favorite bag

Detours Fremonster bag; built in rain cover, zips shut nice and tight, built in magnet holds the flap down, really comfy shoulder strap, perfectly designed pocket for the u-lock on the outside, pokets inside just right for my sketchbook and or laptop, and it's bright, visible and handsome design. No, I don't work for them I just admire the thought that went into the product and love the bag.

Bike accessories

I cannot do without my bag. I got a north street backpack I use most rides. In that I have the other essentials, that some times carry. But the bag is usually there.

Sure, I miss the wind in my hair, but I'm also missing five hours of my life from the day something terrible (still a mystery to me) happened. All I know is that my helmet had an ten centimetre crack in it and my skull did not.

I also need to have my bike light nearing this time of year as I leave for work at 6:30 am. It not only helps drivers to see me, but helps me navigate on our streets that don't have street lights.

This Baby has Wings

Not my bike silly, but this great giveaway.
Momentum has the best mag and the best prizes.
Still, my bike has most the goodies and a cool bag like this would really show them all up.

Bell and lights

Riding on the Ottawa network that is shared with pedestrians, a bell is quite essential. At night, I don't feel safe without a good rear light.

My bike bell!!! Riding in the city is a challenge with so many pedestrians about. I always receive smiles and thanks when I ring a little warning as I approach.

I can't do without my crate! You never know what you might need to bring home from a bike ride! Dinner? something cool you found by the garbage? A stray animal? haha! Love my crate! That bag would be great too!
