Momentum Mag recently attended the Interbike Trade Show in Las Vegas from September 17-19, 2013. The trade show is our once a year opportunity to meet with our North American bike industry peers, say "hello" to friends new and old, and check out the latest and greatest bicycles and accessories that will arrive in a bike store near you starting in the fall of 2013 and spring 2014.
After six years of attending the show, I have never been more excited about the city bicycle and everyday rider accessories on display. Finally, the industry is starting to respond to the rapidly growing demands of everyday riders!
So what is new for city riding in 2014?
- Many more stylish and practical options are arriving for carrying stuff by bike. Detours, Ortlieb (check out their high-visibility line), Vaude, and Timbuk2 are just a few of the brands launching good looking and practical new bags in their 2014 lines.
- An explosion of city bikes will be available in a variety of price ranges with many new color options to choose from! Color certainly was a theme with pastels, brights, and shiny metallics all making an appearance. Excellent ranges will be available from the new classic city bike brands Linus and Biria as well as newbies Pure City and Creme.
- And for those of you that opt to wear a helmet, new brands are launching urban helmets and many established companies have vastly expanded their lines. Check out the new Bern Allston helmet with much better ventilation system and great color selections.
- And finally, lights, lights, and more lights! New lighting companies are offering advanced design options beyond traditional bike lights. A focus is on USB-rechargeable lighting; how it charges and when it indicates that the light is going to wear out. Look for new offerings from Knog, Planet Bike, and Blink Steady.
Check out the slideshow to see a sneak peak of my favorite picks from Interbike.
This is Momentum Mag’s 7th year attending the North American bicycle industry’s annual trade show. And for those that missed it, we hope that our fashion show will be back next year.
