Santa Monica Bike Opening

Jeremy Rothschild

Working at Momentum Magazine often means that serendipidous events occur on a regular basis.  On my November trip to California I was exploring Santa Monica with my lovely tour guides Eva Lewington of Felt Bicycles, Crystal Talbot of Inertia Racing Technology and Asuka Hisa of the Santa Monica Museum of Art (brain woman behind the ever popular Tour da Arts Bike Tour that takes place in August).  Eva, Crystal and Asuka took me to the Grand Opening party of the Santa Monica Bike Center, the latest project of Chicago based Bike and Park. The Bike Center is intended to provide secure bike parking and a variety of mobility services, including retail, bike repair, bike rental, attended bike parking, public information on alternative transportation, and additional related services.

Here I was lucky enough to meet up with the owner Josh and Marketing Director Jeremy who were grinning ear to ear, explaning that the Mayor of Santa Monica had been at the Center earlier for the ribbon cutting and to boast that this was now the largest bike station in the USA.  Josh has big plans to grow the Bike and Park brand.  They just launched their new website and are now working towards launching their third location, Cincinnati in spring 2012.
