Lakefront Bike Fundraiser Raises Environmental Awareness and Solar Panels for Local Schools
WHAT:
Climate Cycle’s will host the third annual Ride to Recharge, the weekend of May 21-22, offering cyclists of all levels a variety of fun and challenging courses, including a metric century (62-mile) and double century (125-mile) ride to and from Indiana. Additional family-friendly 4-, 10- and 20-mile local lakefront routes are also available.
The 62- and 125-mile overnight rides stretch from Grant Park to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and traverse the lakefront with miles of dunes, savannas, swamps, marshes, rivers, prairies and forests. The shorter courses will pass through the Museum Campus and Burnham Park and will feature views of the skyline and Buckingham Fountain. A celebration at DuSable Harbor following the rides is open to the public and will feature a variety of free eco-friendly and family-oriented activities, exhibitors, snacks and live music performances.
Riders garner pledges from friends and family to help spread the word about the importance of inspiring youth and each other on living a greener lifestyle. Proceeds will be used to install solar energy systems and other environmental projects in Chicago-area schools. To register, participate or learn more, visit climatecycle.org.
