On June 2, 2011, a new website, montrealcyclechic.com, was released as part of an initiative by Vélo Québec.
As part of a larger international Cycle Chic™ movement, this new blog was unveiled during the Montreal Bike Festival and will now be joining the ranks of about forty other cities that have their own Cycle Chic™ blog.
Creator Mikael Colville-Andersen first started this initiative in 2007 with the Copenhagen Cycle Chic and Copenhagenize blogs. Since then, he has led the way to the creation of the numerous offshoots, finally with the Montreal Cycle Chic blog.
Colville-Andersen, with a group of Montreal photobloggers that will be contributing to the new blog, attended the unveiling of the website at the Montreal Bike Fest this past May-June.
With a particular focus on bicycle fashion, the Montréal blog is all about the interplay between the beautiful old-age streets of the city and the modern and hipster trends that work so well with the bike culture.
Going through these photos, one definitely gets a feel of not only how easy it is to fit a bicycle to one's lifestyle, but also how bike-friendly Montréal really is: a vast amount of the pictures feature the BIXI bikes – rentals from the city-wide bike share program.
