It's not part of the law to wear a helmet "because there are too many car accidents involving cyclists". It's the law because politicians back in the early 90s were lobbied intensively to be the guinea pigs for the world's first helmet law. The vice-president of Bell Helmets made the trip across the Pacific each time there was a hearing, to sit side by side with the pro-helmet politicians. Which is hardly reassuring.
We know a lot about helmets after 25 years of research. There is copious amounts of documentation on the internet. It would be a great idea if an article such as this was researched a little more thoroughly, instead of just firing off misconceptions. Check out The Bicycle Helmet Research Foundation and the Australian Helmet Freedom website to get in the loop.
