On July 3, 2012, Kansas City B-cycle landed in Greater Downtown with 90 bicycles spread across 12 stations.
Not yet a month old and the public/ private partnership is already eyeing expansion.
The system is owned by BikeShareKC, an affiliate of BikeWalkKC, the region's professional advocacy and education organization. The organization teamed up with title sponsor Blue Cross and Blue Shield for the initial launch.
Now, to attract more support, members and sponsors the team has taken to online crowdsourcing.
With the goal of raising $1.2 million, the crowdsource funding page allows anyone to contribute for as little as $10. Each level of funding comes with its own advantages allowing individuals or businesses to sponsor, buy bulk memberships and contribute to expanding the bike share fleet.
