For years I owned a pickup truck thinking that I was really practical. But I almost never used the truck bed for anything, really. And when I did, it was rarely for more than I could have put into the trunk of a car. And when my last truck died, I went car-free. That was more than 10 years ago, and I was single.
I married a car owner with two kids -- and I am again trying to go car-free (or as car-light as possible) while still meeting the hauling needs of a family. For awhile I was looking into cargo bikes until I realized that it was like the pickup truck all over again. Most of the time I don't need any cargo capacity beyond what I can carry on a rear rack. But a couple of times a week, I need the capacity and convenience of a car trunk.
The Wandertec Tuba Bike Trailer is the perfect size for people who would rather not use their cars for some very common load sizes, but have no other option with the loading convenience of a car. With the rail system and liner, I can neatly line up six reusable grocery bags in the trailer. I can load it easily without multiple tries like an exercise in creative problem solving. It tows well, can carry up to 200 pounds -- and I can leave it in the garage when I don't need it.
To raise the funds needed to begin production of the versatile Wandertec Tuba Bike Trailer the team has launched a campaign on Kickstarter.
