Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson Shares His Bike Style

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson shares his BikeStyle with Momentum Mag.

Written by:

Gregor Robertson

City: Vancouver, British Columbia

Occupation: Mayor

What is your BikeStyle?

Suit and shell. I’m most often riding in a suit and tie with an outer layer when needed.

What are your favorite clothes to bike in?

I absolutely love riding in heavy rain with good raingear. And nothing beats riding to the beach in shorts and flip-flops in summer.

Where are we most likely to spot your bike?

Either at City Hall or out zooming along Vancouver’s bike lanes. My bike gets me almost everywhere I need to go, even with my crazy schedule.

What do you like most about riding?

It’s fast, healthy and green. And it’s a great way to keep track of the action around the city – I see and learn things on every ride, which keeps me closer to the ground as the mayor.

What is your dream bike for everyday cycling?

I love my streetified 1990 Rocky Mountain Stratos and Xtracycle for doubling and cargo runs. But I’m mighty tempted by some of Naked Bicycles’ creations!

What did you eat for breakfast?

A Happy Planet smoothie and toast with local hazelnut butter.

What song is most played on your iPod?

Anything by the Boom Booms or Alex Cuba.

Basket or panniers?

Both! I use a pannier for my iPad and other work-related gear, or one of the beautiful and rugged baskets that my wife Amy custom-weaves with willow and cedar.
