On May 26 at approximately 5 p.m. a car driver veered off the road over a separated bicycle lane and sidewalk and directly into a popular neighbourhood bike shop called Sweet Pete’s.

The bike shop is in the Bloordale Village neighbourhood of Toronto. According to an Instagram post by Sweet Pete’s, nobody in the store was hurt. But, there were two injuries reported in connection with the incident.

“Sadly there was an accident at our 517 Bloor St shop,” the post read, in part. “We will be sure to update you all the situation as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience.”

Local advocacy group Cycling Toronto posted that this stretch of bike lane is the busiest in the city saying the “last time data was available, one million bike trips were made along this stretch of Bloor in a year + millions of people walking. This is one of the safest main streets in Toronto & this still happens.”
