Heritage Division is a new kind of workshop. The California-based unit partners with the best craftsmen in the world, reviving and fostering their traditional manufacturing techniques to build new lifestyle products steeped in tradition. Their first collection is a line of four high-end bicycles, built by Italian bike maker Taurus, with modern accents provided by Heritage Division.

Since 1908, Taurus has been building stylish utility bikes in a family-owned factory in Italy, using traditional techniques and classic design. The four Heritage Division bicycles represent a blending of tradition with modern functionality. Taurus is one of the few bike-makers in the world manufacturing all parts in the same production plant. The result is high-quality bicycles with style-forward aesthetics influenced by nearby Milan.

“The uniqueness of the process is based on 95% human-powered manufacturing, combined with the ability to manufacture bikes in small batches. We like to think of ourselves as a sustainable micro-factory, which isn’t common these days,” said Roberto Scaccia, founder and CEO of Heritage Division in a press release. “For example, we choose to not use machinery to install spokes for each of the bike wheels because there isn’t a machine in the world that can match the hand process.”

The four bikes, the Corsa, Lusso, Strada, and Viaggio combine a traditional aesthetic with modern touches, such as a GPS locator integrated into the frame to prevent theft. Each bike features a hand-welded stainless steel frame, a Brooks saddle, and a hand-painted matte finish. The Corsa has a racing-style frame with drop handlebars and a 7-speed derailleur. The Lusso and Strada both feature 3-speed internal hubs and a more upright riding position, while the Viaggio features a very-upright riding position, front and back racks, and a 5-speed internal hub.
