Cargo bikes are still growing in popularity and now we are seeing some variety in shapes and sizes, none more unique than the new STREEK cargo trike from Vvolt and Japanese brand Envision.
Originally built for the busy streets of Japan, this compact and adaptable trike is being reimagined for an American rider.
What makes the STREEK special? It’s all in the details. Featuring a tilting front suspension made from lightweight carbon fiber, the trike keeps rides steady and smooth even when carrying up to 130 lbs of cargo. The modular design allows riders to set it up for one or two levels of storage, providing flexibility for everyday tasks or business needs without taking up too much space. Add electric pedal assist, and you have a vehicle that maneuvers easily through crowded streets and narrow turns, making it a practical choice for city dwellers.
“We’re excited to work with Envision to adapt the STREEK for American cities,” said Kyle Ranson, CEO and Founder of Vvolt. “Its unique suspension and modular cargo space meet the growing need for efficient, eco-friendly transport.”
The original STREEK earned a following in Japan for its versatile, smooth ride, used by families, small businesses, and even delivery services. With its slim frame designed to fit into tight urban spaces, it’s a natural fit for many American cities that are leaning into more sustainable transportation options.
Vvolt isn’t stopping with just the STREEK trike. The company plans to incorporate parts of its modular system into a new line of mid-drive cargo bikes, catering to riders who need a powerful, compact option for daily errands and work. Whether you’re transporting kids, parcels, or groceries, these bikes will offer a reliable and flexible way to get around town.
“STREEK’s design has sparked interest far beyond Japan, and this collaboration with Vvolt is a great way to introduce it to a wider audience in North America,” said Harry Uden, president of Envision Incorporated.
Vvolt is already developing prototypes in their Portland, Oregon, workshop, working to ensure that the STREEK suits the needs of American riders. A crowdfunding campaign to launch the STREEK is expected in spring 2025, so keep an eye out if you’re eager for a more versatile way to move through the city.
