Last week, Momentum reported a bizarre and frightening incident in the Melbourne area that involved the driver of a car hitting a cyclist reportedly on purpose to post to social media to get likes. Well, good news, the person behind the incident has been arrested.
According to Victoria Police, two teenagers have been arrested, one of whom faces charges in connection with the case.
The incident, which took place on Beach Road, Cheltenham, at approximately 5:20 am on Jan. 23, involved a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist. The victim, a 51-year-old man from Aspendale, sustained severe injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital. He was discharged on Jan. 30, after receiving medical treatment. Subsequently, another cyclist, a 72-year-old resident of Bentleigh East, was also struck by a vehicle on Beach Road in Beaumaris, near Tramway Parade. The vehicle reportedly fled the scene, leaving the second victim with serious injuries.
The rider remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Law enforcement authorities were able to locate a stolen Holden Astra in Black Rock, believed to have been used in the incidents. Following thorough investigations, two 16-year-old boys were apprehended in Noble Park around 7:30 pm on the preceding night. While one of the teenagers was taken to the hospital under police supervision and is expected to face charges related to the theft of a motor vehicle, the other, a Clyde North resident, was charged with multiple offenses, including reckless conduct endangering life, intentional infliction of serious injury, and dangerous driving. Moreover, he was implicated in an alleged robbery at a local shopping center as well as an alleged aggravated burglary the following day.
The accused teenager is scheduled to appear in a children’s court later today. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the involvement of any additional individuals in the cyclist incidents.
