On Sunday, August 18, Hollywood will host the amazing urban cycling event: CicLAvia—Meet the Hollywoods. The streets of West Hollywood, Hollywood, and East Hollywood will be car-free, offering 6.6 miles of open roads for people-powered movement.

This event, now in its 54th edition, is part of a broader movement inspired by Bogotá’s weekly ciclovía, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. CicLAvia has been transforming Los Angeles streets into vibrant, car-free spaces since 2010, drawing participants from around the globe who are passionate about urban cycling and sustainable transportation.

“As the largest car-free streets project in the US, CicLAvia offers the unique opportunity to enjoy Los Angeles streets while Biking, Walking, Skating, etc., without the fear of being hit by a car,” says Tafarai Bayne, CicLAvia Chief Strategist.

A Global Perspective on Urban Cycling

For one day, the bustling streets of Hollywood Blvd, Highland Ave, and Santa Monica Blvd will become a temporary park. This transformation provides a unique opportunity to explore some of the world’s most famous neighborhoods without the usual traffic. Participants are encouraged to walk, bike, skate, or stroll, experiencing the city in a new, refreshing way.

Five Hubs along the route—West Hollywood Hub, Plummer Park Hub, Walk of Fame Hub, Hollywood Blvd Hub, and East Hollywood Hub—will serve as activity centers and rest areas. Each Hub will offer family-friendly activities, restrooms, free water stations, bike repairs, parking, and first aid services. Free pedicab rides will be available, making it easy to move between Hubs and explore different parts of the route.

“CicLAvia—Meet the Hollywoods is a testament to the power of open streets,” says Romel Pascual, CicLAvia’s Executive Director. “It’s not just about removing cars; it’s about reimagining our urban spaces and creating environments where people can connect and thrive.”

Connecting Communities Worldwide

CicLAvia is more than just a local event; it’s part of a global conversation about sustainable urban living. Since its inception, CicLAvia has hosted millions of participants from around the world, who come to experience Los Angeles in a way that’s rarely possible. The event highlights the potential of urban spaces to foster community, promote health, and reduce environmental impact.

Participants are encouraged to use people-powered vehicles, including pedal-assist e-bikes (with specific guidelines for different classes), to navigate the open streets. Motorized wheelchairs are also welcome, ensuring accessibility for all.

“From our start producing one event a year focused on the downtown LA area, we have grown to produce over eight events a year touching 70 neighborhoods across the city,” Bayne adds.
