Innovative internet company Mozilla brings its progressive approach to transportation solutions with the introduction of a bike share program for its employees.
Mozilla chief financial officer Jim Cook wanted a way for employees to easily get around for lunch and errands, travel between offices and commute to and from home. With cycling consultants Bikes Make Life Better, the program started in conjunction with the opening of Mozilla’s new San Francisco office and just in time for Bike to Work Day on May 10, 2012.
The Mozilla bike share consists of a 20-bike fleet of PUBLIC’s C7 model, a seven-speed bike designed for city and commuter use. The bikes were customized by Bikes Make Life Better with the Mozilla colors. In addition to the city bikes, Mozilla will soon have a fleet of custom-branded folding bikes to help Mozillians who commute between company offices using the local commuter train service. With the new bike share program, both the company and the employees win by avoiding parking expenses and car maintenance costs.
If this pilot project goes well, look for more bike share programs at other Mozilla offices.
