Shelby Sanchez Rides a Cargo Bike with her Children

Shelby Sanchez is a Creative Marketing Strategist and Inspirer at Dream Inspired Design, a web and design business committed to eco-friendly practices. She is the mother of two toddlers and lives car-free with a Babboe Big Cargobike in Long Beach, CA.

For Sanchez, the switch to a cargo bike was one of the best decisions of her life. “I feel such a sense of freedom,” said Sanchez. “My main motivation for going car-free and choosing a cargo bike for our family was knowing that in order to see healthy changes I had to embody the change I wanted to see and make more conscious choices that keep the Earth and the next seven generations in mind.”

Sanchez was also motivated to go car-free with a cargo bike after witnessing firsthand the effect that oil has on communities. Her children are half Kichwa from Ecuador; their father is from a small community in the Amazon called Sarayaku. The Sarayaku have successfully resisted oil companies trying to invade their territory to extract oil. In her own community, Sanchez has also seen how driving cars creates a disconnection from engaging with others and experiencing the land.
