With the New Road line of clothing Giro has combined vintage and modern fabrics and styles to redefine the concept of cycling clothing. The High Neck Zip-Up is a versatile insulating layer made of 21 percent Merino wool/ 79 percent Poly Blend with a zip access port and internal pocket. Available in three colors in sizes S-XXL, sewn in California.

SUMMARY

I immediately felt comfortable slipping into the High Neck Zip-Up. The slim cut through the body and arms is reminiscent of vintage ski sweaters, including the paneled 1/4 zip. The Merino wool content keeps the fabric feeling soft and wicks moisture while retaining heat. The poly blend helps the top keep it’s shape and after many washings has kept pilling to a minimum, hardly noticeable due to the heathered fabric. The zip access port in the rear is meant to work with other pieces in the New Road line, providing access to rear pockets on jerseys and the bib short. Paired with my regular street clothes I didn’t find much use for the zip access and the internal pocket is too small and inconvenient to reach. This is perhaps the first piece of clothing that I feel equally comfortable wearing on long road rides as I do pulling over a dress shirt.
