Jason Hall of Slow Roll fame is back with new weekly ride in Detroit

Jason Hall kick started the bike life scene when he helped found the legendary Slow Roll in Detroit, Michigan that drew upwards of 4,000 cyclists for a weekly ride through the city. Now, Hall is back and organizing a new e-bike group ride he’s dubbed Electric Thursdays.

More than four years ago now, Hall walked away from the beast he helped create with Slow Roll.

“I left it because, at the time, I had done it for eight years,” he says. “And it was time for me to sort of stretch my legs.”

The new ride is organized by Hall’s RiDetroit tour company and the meet-up is at the shop in which his personal tour company is housed, Electric Avenue Bikes. An event, Hall says he organized simply because he missed his friends.

“I can’t lie my friend Gary really pushed me to get back into it,” Hall says. “Once I got started I was quickly reminded how fun it is to ride with a group of friends.”

According to Hall, participants meet every Thursday at 6 p.m. and leave at 6:30 p.m. from Electric Ave Bikes in Detroit.

“We have no designated route. I make it up as I go along. I go in a different direction every week and we have added in a stop for a quick snack and beverage if time allows,” Hall says. “We usually go around 15-20 miles.”

Hall says, the when the ride first started it was small.

“It took (e-bikers) a while to connect to the fact that it was me,” he explains. “Once people made the connection the ride started to grow. That and adding some high profile ride with the Detroit Pistons and The Detroit Lions.”

Now that it’s become another popular weekly ride, Hall couldn’t be happier.

“It felt amazing to get back into it I can’t lie,” Hall says. “Riding and being out in the community is where I belong. Not having all the stress of running a huge non-profit organization helps too lol.”

Hall doesn’t have any grand ambitions to make Electric Thursdays into another Slow Roll. He’s happy being back out there in the city on group rides with friends new and old.

“I’m enjoying the size so we can still be democratic as far as routes and such. I’m very busy with my tour company RiDetroit and that’s my main priority,” Hall says.
