The Clip from JBL is a portable, wireless speaker. With built-in clip and microphone along with Bluetooth connectivity and a USB-rechargeable battery. One year warranty.

JBL had a winner in our Bike Speakers roundup last year with the JBL Charge. One year later, they are back with an updated line that includes the new JBL Clip. Weighing in at 150g and palm-sized for portability, the Clip is perfect for taking along on any occasion, knowing you are always ready to boost your sound experience away from your home setup. With five colors to choose from, this robust little speaker does the trick by pairing easily to your smartphone with Bluetooth or via the built-in mini-cable for non-wireless playback. The on-board mic allows speakerphone capabilities and the rechargeable Clip maintains a battery life of up to five hours, depending on the type of use.

The big bonus – and feature lending its name – is the top carabiner clip. With this, you can “clip” the speaker almost anywhere – a rear rack, front basket, backpack strap, the belt loop on your jeans, or even a big gold chain around your neck if that’s your style. Of course, a speaker is only as good as it sounds and thankfully the JBL / Harmon partnership delivers again with a really nice overall range – nothing too deep due to physical limitation, but plenty of volume to entertain a small group riding close together. Off the bike, the speaker shines in enclosed spaces (bumping up the bass as well) or at a picnic on a quiet night. At the $50 price point, there aren’t many speakers with this attention to both design and sound quality. Frankly, I was surprised at the low price tag – the Clip is certainly worth checking out if you are looking for a low-cost, high-quality speaker.
