Cyclists, an exciting new cycle tourism route opened up in France this year: La Régalante. Stretching 275 km from Mont-Saint-Michel to Nantes, this route weaves through the historic Marches de Bretagne and offers a seamless blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty.

A Scenic Journey Through History

Developed as part of a three-department collaboration (Manche, Loire-Atlantique, and Ille-et-Vilaine), La Régalante follows old railway lines, creating a greenway that is safe and serene.

The route links up with key points such as the iconic Mont-Saint-Michel and the medieval town of Vitré, making it ideal for tourists, families, and cycling enthusiasts alike. Whether you’re aiming to take on the full 275 km or just a scenic portion, this path offers a well-preserved landscape filled with castles, rolling fields, and quaint towns.

From Fougères to Mont-Saint-Michel

One of the highlights of La Régalante is the stunning 51 km route from Fougères to Mont-Saint-Michel. Cyclists can expect a mix of greenways and small, scenic roads, making the journey a perfect blend of nature and culture. The route starts in Fougères, a town known for its medieval charm and impressive castle, before leading onto a sanded greenway that traces an old railway line, taking you all the way to the town of Antrain. From there, you’ll ride through rural landscapes until you join the EuroVelo 4 route at Pontorson.

The final stretch brings you to the breathtaking sight of Mont-Saint-Michel. Cyclists are allowed on the road dyke and the footbridge leading to the iconic island, with dedicated bike parking available near the entrance. If the 70 spaces at the Mont fill up, additional free parking areas for bicycles are available in nearby Beauvoir.
