Luka Doncic gifts entire team new Mercedes e-bikes for Christmas

NBA basketball players aren’t just about arriving at the arena on game day with their gigantic SUVs and sports cars. At least one player is doing his part to promote more active transportation and put his team on the positive side of the climate ledger. For Christmas this year, Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic gifted the entire team including staff Mercedes-EQ electric bicycles.

In a video that warms our active transportation hearts, the players and staff are seen checking out and choosing their e-bikes with big grins plastered on their faces like all of us on new bike day. It never gets old.

“You walk in and there’s just bikes lined up,” said Dante Exum, one of the players on the team, to the Dallas News. “It’s a great gift, and it’s love. Christmas, just that joy of seeing everyone happy. It’s just about family.”

The gifts were presented to the team prior to a game against the San Antonio Spurs on Dec. 23, and the scheduled team meeting was cut short because the players were ready to ride.

“The meeting was short,” Exum said, “because we were just so excited about the bikes.”

Doncic and the Mavericks went on to win the game, surely fuelled by the e-bike excitement with the star scoring 41 points.

Meanwhile, the team should consider advocating for an increase in safe bicycle infrastructure as the city of Dallas is working at its own bicycle plan.

And, maybe Luka will add a little of his magic to the e-bike boom and help other NBA players realise the best way to get to the gym is on two wheels.
