Iconic American motorcycle company Harley-Davidson has launched a new vintage-style e-bike under its Serial 1 Cycle Company brand and it’s already sold out.

The company joins a number of well-known brands dabbling in the already-exploding global e-bike market including another recent entry, fancy automaker BMW

The name Serial 1 is derived from the nickname of Harley-Davidson’s original motorcycle.

“When Harley-Davidson first put power to two wheels in 1903, it changed how the world moved, forever,” says Aaron Frank, brand director for Serial 1 Cycle Company. “Inspired by the entrepreneurial vision of Harley-Davidson’s founders, we hope to once again change how cyclists and the cycling-curious move around their world with a Serial 1 eBicycle.”

The company’s first bikes rolled into the world earlier this spring with four models ranging from an introductory Mosh/City e-bike priced at $3,799 to a Rush/Cty Speed model pegged at $5,599 that has a maximum assisted speed of a very peppy 28 mph.

Most recently, the original prototype for the brand went up for sale as a limited edition series dubbed the Mosh/Tribute for the whopping price tag of $5999. Apparently, people are digging the vintage vibe as the model has sold out in about a week.

The e-bike does look sweet with glossy black paint, white-toned Schwalbe Super Moto-X tires, and honey-coloured leather saddle with matching grips from Brooks England.

The Mosh/Tribute is powered by a Brose mid-mount motor and Gates Carbon Drive belt with TRP hydraulic disc brakes, internally routed cables and wires, and integrated lighting.

The ebikes gold rush is on! Automakers LOVE a good subsidy, and they see one on the horizon in the US.
