The Sea Otter Classic is the world’s premier cycling festival. This ‘celebration of cycling’ will host hundreds of vendors showing off their new wares and giving away lots of swag. The four-day, action-packed festival has something for everyone and includes an international food court, entertainment, bike demos, stunt shows, and activities for children.

Here’s our Q+A with the team from Sea Otter Classic

Sea Otter Classic

MM: Why should the urban cyclist attend this event?

SO: Sea Otter is truly a “celebration of cycling.” The urban cyclist will enjoy joining in the festive atmosphere that occurs when so many different types of cyclists gather together to celebrate the sport they love.

MM: Sounds like you are bringing together lots of great brands! Can you help us discover the ones that cater to the urban cyclist?

SO: Shinola, Yuba, and Brompton are a few of our exhibitors that definitely have an urban focus. Garmin would also be a great exhibitor to check out for any fitness enthusiast.

MM: What can people look forward to at this year’s Sea Otter Classic?

SO: Our Expo is the largest of its kind with exhibitors catering to all forms of cycling. Urban cyclists will want to check out all of the e-bike demos available as well as the e-bike course.  Those looking to race or ride can sign up for the eMTB race or recreational rides such as the Gran Fondo, Gravel Grinder, and MTB Tour. Competitive events such as the Cross Country race, Road Race, Downhill, and Criterium are also fan favorites.

MM: Who are you excited to have attend this year’s Sea Otter Classic?

SO: Every year we have cycling legends, former Olympians, world champions, politicians, etc. from all around the world. Barry Bonds is a fan of Sea Otter and has attended many times.

MM: Will city bikes and e-bikes have a presence at Sea Otter Classic this year?

SO: Yes, we have ebike demos from exhibitors like Raleigh Electric, Maxon BikeDrive, and eProdigy Bikes. Additionally, urban cyclists can try out the ebike course or register for the ebike race, now in its second year.

MM: How has the festival changed in recent years?

SO: The expo has grown and is becoming a focus of the event. With so many different brands present, there’s something for everyone. Racing will always be a part of the event and we are always looking to represent as much of the cycling community as possible.

MM: Are there any trails in the area that you recommend for casual rides?

SO: Laguna Seca is adjacent to the Fort Ord National Monument and offers miles of trails to ride. Also, the scenic Monterey Coast Trail is accessible from the venue and follows the coast into Cannery Row.

Thanks for the Q&A Sea Otter! For those who have never experienced this event there is no better way to kick off the bike season. You’ll be surrounded by great people coming together to show their support and love of bicycles. If a bike festival is on your to-do list make sure it’s this one.
