One of the best-known bike brands on the planet, Trek, is launching two new e-bikes to its growing line of pedal-assist bicycles.

The FX +2 and the Dual Sport +2 are significant in that, unlike many of the brand’s high-end e-bikes, the two new versions are aimed squarely at everyday riders and are Trek’s most affordable e-bikes to date with internal batteries that are almost completely hidden from view.

Trek FX +2

FX+2

The FX+2 model, priced at $2,499, is the one that should most interest those in the city looking for a high-quality e-bike for daily commuting and other everyday uses.

This bike has a 40 Nm rear-wheel electric motor powered by a 250 Wh internal battery system that is said to offer a range of up to 55 kilometres on a single charge. Unlike some of Trek’s pricier e-bike models designed for road and mountains, this bike has a 20 mph maximum speed, which means it is focusses largely on city cycling and would make a great commuter bike.

Trek does offer a range extender as well, which sits in the water bottle mounts.

The FX +2 also comes with a nine-speed Shimano drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes and integrated lighting.

The FX+2 comes in both a step-through and step-over model with a slightly more upright geometry and tires that are designed for road surfaces. Adding to the street vibe are built-in rear and front fenders as well as a rear rack.

There is also a torque and cadence sensor in the bottom bracket, which allows for a more true bicycle feel to the three levels of electric assist.

The handlebar control is the smallest and best we’ve seen, designed so riders never have to take their hands away from the controls.

The Trek FX has always ranked very highly when it comes to ranking the best bikes for city commuting, and adding an electric option makes it that much better.

Dual Sport +2

The Dual Sport +2 is a lightweight hybrid-style e-bike designed for multiple surfaces including easy off-road trails such as gravel thanks to the wider tires.

The lightweight e-bike is priced at $2,399.
