The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is set to place this weekend in cities around the world. And that means many things, not the least of which is a lot of cheek-to-seat action for bicycle seats, some of which will be attached to bike share bikes. And, at least in one city, participants are being warned to show some serious courtesy when it comes to the big ride.

In Toronto, hosting an always-popular ride this weekend, Bike Share Toronto has asked participants to at the very least wipe down seats after use.

“Though we don’t encourage it, we understand that some riders will use the system in this manner on June 8,” wrote Justin Hanna, of Bike Share Toronto, for an article on the local CityNews.

“As a matter of common courtesy and hygiene we strongly ask and encourage those riders to wipe down the seats and handlebars after their ride so that they are sanitized for the next rider.”

On the website for the local Toronto organiser of the World Naked Bike Ride, there is a recommendation to bring along a seat cover.

There are now WNBR events in more than 70 cities across 20 countries.

In London, where there is no law against nudity, WNBR is also scheduled for this weekend where more than 1,000 riders are expected to participate including many on the bike share.

Organizers are encouraging a bike rental by offering a discount code for use as well as other options including bike share, with some added guidance and tips.

“If you are hiring or borrowing a bike, and you have a bare bum, you should cover the saddle,” the site reads. “This will protect you from any dirt, as well as being polite to the next person who uses the bike. You can purchase a 2019 edition WNBR seat cover for £2 at the start points. You might alternatively use some of your clothes to make a temporary cover.”
