UK DJ Dom Whiting Hosts Massive Bike Rave in Berlin with Over 5,000 Cyclists

What started as a pandemic experiment has officially become a full-blown movement. UK DJ Dom Whiting, known for spinning drum-and-bass sets from behind the handlebars of his modified Christiania cargo bike, just hosted his largest event yet—a massive bike rave in Berlin that drew more than 5,000 cyclists.

“Still can’t believe that 5,000 PEOPLE came to the BERLIN ride on Sunday,” wrote Whiting, on a social media post. “INCREDIBLE SCENES. YOU ARE THE BEST!”

Over the weekend, the city’s streets transformed into an open-air club on wheels. Cyclists of all stripes—some in rave gear, others in everyday clothes—followed Whiting as he rode through the city, his mobile DJ booth blasting high-energy drum-and-bass. The infectious beats and inclusive vibe made it one of the most unique public events in Berlin this spring.

What began as a workaround during COVID-19 lockdowns, when clubs and parties shut down, has turned into a continent-spanning phenomenon. Whiting’s rides, which are live-streamed online and attended in person by growing crowds, have rolled through cities across the UK and Europe. But this latest turnout in Berlin marked a high point for the project.

“The best thing that’s come out of this for me is that people appreciate what I’ve created—that’s the most important thing of it all,” Whiting said in a previous interview. And it seems Berliners more than appreciated it.

Whiting’s bike, a heavily modified Christiania cargo cycle, serves as both a mobile DJ booth and live-streaming platform. “I had to get various bits of metal produced and welded to enable this to work,” he explained. “Definitely had some sleepless nights trying to get the camera as good as it is.”

“The thought of having a moving background whilst DJ-ing is something you can’t buy,” said Whiting, who hails from High Wycombe, England. “This gave me the inspiration to try something different.”

Those late nights seem to be paying off. With more cities inquiring about future rides and fans eagerly following along on social media, Dom Whiting’s two-wheeled parties show no signs of slowing down.

As for Berlin, it’s safe to say the city won’t forget its first bike rave anytime soon. And judging by the response, it likely won’t be the last.
