The owners of Bread Srsly, a gluten-free San Francisco bakery, are growing their business with the help of their built up Soma Tradesman cargo bike. Here’s what owner Vanessa Christie had to say about their delivery bike.
Q What inspired you to start riding a cargo bike?
We needed more capacity to deliver our bread and muffin orders. We had bikes with panniers and backpacks, but as our business grew, we needed more room for heavier loads and the delicate muffins. So we upgraded to a Soma cargo bike.
Q When did you start using your cargo bike?
Our first day of deliveries with the cargo bike was on April 17, 2012.
Q Where did you buy your cargo bike?
The non-profit bike shop Pedal Revolution lent us their Soma Tradesman (custom built at their shop). We’re also talking with a local, custom cargo bike frame builder Cameron Falconer about building a bread delivery-specific cargo bike for the future.
Q How has your cargo bike affected your life and/ or business?
We can deliver more bread in an efficient, effective and fun way and increase our business exposure in a positive way. On a personal level, you can’t help but feel pretty hardcore cruising through downtown San Francisco on a sunny day with a full load. And you get a few smiles from pedestrians and other cyclists admiring your efforts (or craziness).
