According to the Adventure Cycling Association, the popularity of bicycle travel and tourism is on the rise. Not since the 1970s has interest in bicycle travel been so strong. Global tour operators are reporting a stronger demand for bicycle trips, and large multi-day US bike events continue to attract record numbers. Bike route networks are also expanding. The US Bicycle Route System has 41 states involved in planning, implementing and signing routes. In addition, new forms of bicycle travel are beginning to take hold. Shorter, family-friendly bicycle trips and 1- or 2-day “bike overnights” make bicycle travel accessible on even the busiest schedule. Whether you decide to bike around a new country or simply explore your local bike routes, bicycle travel could provide the experience of a lifetime.
