Detroit Bikes Opens a Flagship Retail Space

Detroit Bikes, North America’s fastest-growing bicycle manufacturer, just announced the grand opening of its flagship retail space in downtown Detroit, MI.

Named Detroit Bikes 1216 after its location at 1216 Griswold Street, the store will showcase the company’s signature line of Detroit-manufactured bicycles. The 12,000 square foot space has been renovated to reveal ornate moldings and stone columns, with added oak paneling and display cases to give the store a vintage feel.

Founded in 2011 by President Zak Pashak, Detroit Bikes aims to contribute to the economic revitalization of Detroit through the revival of its manufacturing industry. They are committed to making reliable, minimalist bicycles that are locally made and affordable. The frame, the chain guard, rear rack and wheel are all manufactured in the company’s 50,000 square foot West Detroit factory, while Pashak plans to eventually also make the seats, handlebars and forks.

Given his commitment to the history and vitality of the city, it is no surprise that Pashak chose to open Detroit Bikes 1216 in the Capitol Park Historic District, a secluded – but historically important – area of downtown Detroit that is currently in the midst of a transformation. Detroit Bikes 1216 will be the first retailer to move into the area, following on the heels of a few independent coffee shops and small businesses.

The retail space will provide community members with a relaxed, inviting atmosphere to connect with the company and check out their growing line of beautiful, hand-made bicycles. The store will also feature American-made accessories and bike products from companies such as Woodward Throwbacks and Better Life Bags.

Detroit Bikes 1216 is set to open on May 8, 2015, with an all-day grand opening event kicking off at 11 am.
