Urban e-bike pioneer Gocycle has just unveiled a new family cargo bike model, the CXi featuring a futuristic design and a host of innovative features.
Gocycle’s entry into the family cargo space marks an impressive expansion of its product lineup, aiming to address the need for lightweight and portable cargo bikes in the market.
“Entering the cargo e-bike scene is a bold move for Gocycle, expanding our product family into uncharted territory,” said Richard Thorpe, Gocycle designer and founder. “We’ve focused on our core values of lightweight and portability – addressing a vital gap in the market, especially for customers turned off by cumbersome and heavy cargo bikes.”
At the heart of the CXi is Gocycle’s OneDesignDNA philosophy, which professes seamless design integration and lightweight construction. The bike features patented innovations such as side-mounted Pitstopwheels®, a F1-inspired monocoque chassis, and an enclosed Cleandrive® drivetrain, all contributing to its distinctive Gocycle identity.
Another feature that Gocycle is trumpeting in terms of innovation on the CXi is the all-new Flofit handlebar. It is quite an interesting addition to be sure, and offers a rare amount of adjustability. It will be interesting to hear how people find the unique hand placement. Whether cyclists prefer an upright riding position or a forward racing style, Gocycle adapts to rider needs with adjustable reach, height, and grip angle, as well as multiple hand positions.
The handlebar is exclusively available on the halo CX+ variant (photo below). For a YouTube video explaining what makes it so unique, see here.
Gocycle CX+
The Gocycle CXi is designed to be lightweight and stowable, making it ideal for urban living. With a weight of just 50 lbs, the CXi is easily transportable and can be stored in tight spaces with ease.
Although it is an impressive entry by Gocycle, the brand won’t even starting shipping until September 2024, although there are “limited pre-orders slots” for both versions available. Pricing for the CXi starts from $6,999, while the halo CX+ variant, featuring the Flofit® handlebar, is priced from $7,999.
With a number of affordable long-tail cargo bikes hitting the market in 2023, as well as more established brands such as Tern and Xtracycle offering models at a similar price point or below, it will be interesting to see how Gocycle fits. For instance, we haven’t found reference to any accessories such as a mount for young children or carriers, but we will assume that will come closer to launch day.
