Chef Morten Kryger Wulff and his Cykelkokken concept are legendary in Copenhagen. A new short film on YouTube dubbed Taste of Copenhagen – The Bicycle Chef chronicles his journey from humble meatpacking district beginnings to culinary and velo superstardom.

Embarking on a nuanced journey between culinary artistry and gracious hosting, Chef Morten Kryger Wulff unveils a unique gastronomic concept that transcends the conventional. Armed with meticulous preparation, local insights, and a mobile kitchen that doubles as a culinary canvas, Morten curates an intimate experience for groups of up to 12, offering a whirlwind exploration through the authentic heart of Copenhagen—Scandinavia’s enchanting jewel.

Behind the bustling Copenhagen main square of eateries and bars hides the kitchen of Wulff, better known as Cykelkokken, the bicycle chef.

Morten’s culinary journey began two decades ago in a city park, where he and his friends were interrupted by a police officer during a barbecue. Unfazed, Morten and his friend ingeniously lifted the barbecue, hot coals and all, onto one of their cargo bikes. Pedaling through the city, the concept of “meals on wheels” took on a new meaning.

That spark of an idea evolved into Cykelkokken—a unique fusion of a Copenhagen city tour by bike and a culinary adventure. Wulff loads up his modified cargo bike, equipped with a fully functioning kitchen, to serve up delicacies to his customers. The aim is for them to leave with a true sense of what it means to be a Copenhagenite.

In 2014, Wulff undertook the construction of a kitchen on the front of his Bullitt cargo bike, produced by Larry Vs. Harry.

Mounted on the bicycle is a four-burner hob, accompanied by substantial wooden storage cupboards underneath. Trailing behind is a sink and additional storage space.

Fast forward two decades, and, owing to continuous tinkering (a characteristic trait of the Danish known for meticulous problem-solving), Wulff has evolved his bike model into a significantly more efficient version, piquing even greater curiosity than his initial creation.

Explore Copenhagen’s hidden gems and vibrant culinary scene with Cykelkokken. Connect with Morten at www.cykelkokken.dk and embark on a journey where gastronomy, cargo biking, and city exploration seamlessly converge in the heart of Copenhagen’s revitalized meatpacking district.

Whether individuals choose to bring their bicycles or avail themselves of support from a well-equipped bicycle rental partner, the arrangements are comprehensive. It remains the individual’s responsibility and choice to guarantee that privately owned bicycles are fitted with bicycle lamps, particularly during the autumn and winter seasons. Additionally, it is advisable to consider the use of bicycle helmets and to ensure the legal compliance of privately owned bicycles.

Opportunities abound to partake in the distinctive combination of culinary experiences and city exploration that Cykelkokken presents. Those interested can engage with Wulff and traverse through the diverse cultural offerings and flavors that Copenhagen has to offer.
