In a surprising departure from conventional electric trikes, Lámpago, a Turkish manufacturer known for their innovative approach, has unveiled a striking two-seater electric trike that challenges the norms of coolness in the world of electric mobility.

Named after the Spanish word for “Lightning,” Lámpago’s e-trike has captured attention with its distinctive design and features. While electric trikes might not have previously been associated with anything in the realm of hip and happening, Lámpago’s creation is changing that perception. With a top speed of 28 mph (45 km/h), the trike’s name might seem ironic, but it aligns with the brand’s aspiration for speed and modernity.

Lámpago design

The trike’s unique design incorporates a delta configuration, featuring two wheels at the rear for enhanced stability during turns. Given this setup, the decision to cap the top speed seems reasonable, ensuring safe maneuverability even on winding roads.

Although Lámpago’s electric trike is visually alluring, its primary focus is on practical mobility rather than high-speed thrills. In fact, the trike falls within the European regulations that allow operation with an AM license, designed for mopeds and three-wheelers powered by engines with 50cc or lower displacement. This positioning underscores its utility as a city-friendly mode of transportation.

The design philosophy of Lámpago is unmistakably captivating, featuring a petite left-side door, Vespa-inspired styling, Chesterfield leather upholstery on the seat, and a nostalgic two-tone color palette. Additional vintage touches include a rear storage bag and a spare wheel cover, adding to the trike’s overall charm.

Performance

However, the trike’s performance characteristics are modest, with a 60V and 30Ah lithium-ion battery pack delivering 1.8 kWh of capacity, about half of what is typically found in urban electric scooters. The compact 1,000-watt electric motor is less powerful than some electric bicycles, which might offer some challenges when it comes to steep hill climbs.

The Lámpago vision extends beyond mere transportation, as the company aims to cater to individuals who prioritize sustainability and wish to make a positive impact on the environment. With meticulous craftsmanship, a sophisticated digital system, and a visually pleasing aesthetic, Lámpago’s electric trike seeks to transform short-distance commutes, everyday travel, and leisure activities into enjoyable experiences.
