Swedish electric motorcycle company Cake has released a new pedal assist e-bike capable of operating for 224-miles and carrying more than 300 pounds of extra weight. But there’s a catch.

The Åik, part of Cake’s :work series, is designed primarily for working professionals who use two-wheeled transportation but there is a lot of utility for the lifestyle requirements of individuals as well. It looks like a bulked up cargo bike crafted on a modular aluminium frame ready for action that can be kitted out with a wide range of racks, bags, trailers, baskets, passenger seats, and more.

“With Åik joining the :work series lineup, we’re now offering a complete assortment of electric two-wheeled solutions for any business in need of a transportation solution” said CAKE founder and CEO Stefan Ytterborn. He continued “Our range is optimized for artisanal needs, from the fastest deliveries in town through to surveillance work in the backcountry.”

The key feature of the class-two e-bike is its battery, or batteries. One of the 750 Wh batteries can power the bike for up to 74.5 miles, but users can connect as many as three batteries. The batteries can also power electronic devices such as temperature-controlled food boxes, electronic tools, and equipment.

The Åik has four levels of assist: Three pedal assist and one walking assist mode. And it boasts an Enviolo Extreme CVP hub gearbox as well as automatic shifting. It can be used with a chain or belt drive.

Which brings us to the battery range. The Åik boasts a whopping 224-mile range, which can be achieved by using all three batteries to extend the miles from the standard and also-impressive 74.5-mile range on the single battery that ships with the bike. The supplementary batteries can be housed from the rear rack while the main battery is housed behind the seat post.

The Åik made its public debut at CES in Las Vegas last week. It will be available to consumers “later this spring,” along with a wide assortment of accessories.
